Rotorua, New Zealand

we ventured inland to Rotorua, a place that perfectly blends geothermal wonders with rich Maori culture. The city’s steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and sulphur-scented air make it a truly unique destination.

We started with a visit to Te Puia, home of the iconic Pohutu Geyser and traditional Maori cultural experiences. Watching the geyser erupt against the backdrop of native forest was awe-inspiring, while the Maori carvings and performances gave us a deeper appreciation for New Zealand’s indigenous heritage.

For a dose of adventure, the surrounding area offers mountain biking, hiking, and even zorbing! We also enjoyed relaxing in the geothermal hot springs, the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. The Redwoods Whakarewarewa Forest provides scenic walking and biking trails under towering trees — it’s magical at any time of day.

Rotorua is a destination that awakens all your senses: the smell of geothermal activity, the sight of erupting geysers, the taste of traditional hangi, and the sounds of native birds and cultural performances. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring the North Island.
