Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Our time in Niagara, Ontario might have been short — but wow, did we make the absolute most of every minute! From the moment we arrived, the constant roar of the falls stopped us right in our tracks. You feel it before you fully see it — the ground subtly vibrating beneath your feet, the mist drifting in the air, and that deep, thundering hum that lets you know something extraordinary is just around the corner.

We started at Table Rock, where you can get unbelievably close to the edge of Horseshoe Falls. Standing there, with the mist kissing your face and the thunder of millions of litres of water plunging over the cliff just metres away, is something you simply can’t describe — you have to experience it. The sheer force of the water feels endless, eternal, almost alive. It’s one of those rare places where you just stop, breathe, and let nature humble you.

From there, we made our way to Journey Behind the Falls, wandering through tunnels carved into the bedrock right behind the cascade. Hearing the water pounding above and in front of you, echoing through the stone, makes you feel tiny in the best possible way. And when you finally step out onto the lower observation deck — right beside the curtain of Horseshoe Falls — the sensation is overwhelming. You are inside the waterfall, a place where nature is so powerful you can’t help but just stand there in awe.

We relied on the WEGO bus system to get around, and honestly, it made everything so easy. Quick, comfortable, and perfect for hopping between attractions without worrying about parking.

And at the end of long days exploring, the Falls Incline Railway from Table Rock back up the hill was an absolute lifesaver. Instead of hiking up the steep incline or detouring through the casino, we simply glided up in minutes — legs grateful, spirits lifted, and with bonus views of the falls as we ascended.

One of our absolute favourite stops was the Niagara Parks Power Station. By day, it’s surprisingly fascinating — full of interactive exhibits, historical installations, and a brilliant Tesla demonstration showing how innovators once harnessed the unbelievable force of the falls. Walking through the old engineering halls feels like stepping into the past.

Then you reach the tunnel — a long passageway leading out to a viewing platform right at the water’s edge. The rapids rush past with impossible speed and colour, and the fresh air coming off the river feels almost electric.

But at night? The power station transforms. Standing so close to the illuminated Horseshoe Falls, watching the colours shift through the mist, is pure magic. The thunder of the water seems louder, deeper, more alive. We could have stayed there all night just soaking it in.

We also visited Niagara Takes Flight — a multi-sensory 4D experience that makes you feel like you’re soaring over Canada’s incredible landscapes. It's one of those attractions you go into expecting a bit of fun, and come out grinning like kids. Absolutely brilliant on a rainy day!

The river walk gave us a chance to slow down and take in the calmer, scenic side of Niagara. There’s even a zip line that whizzes right past you, adding a splash of unexpected excitement to the stroll.

A little further along, we reached the White Water Walk, a boardwalk right beside the Class 6 Rapids — some of the most powerful in the world. The colours of the water are mesmerising: deep turquoise, swirling whitecaps, and that almost iridescent blue you only see in glacial rivers. Being so close to such turbulent, thundering water is both soothing and exhilarating at the same time.

Next up was the Whirlpool Aero Car, gliding high above the swirling Niagara Whirlpool. It’s unreal to think that you’re suspended between two countries as the cable car crosses the gorge. The whirlpool below shifts direction depending on the water levels — sometimes spinning in one direction, sometimes in another — and watching it from above is an unforgettable experience.

Close to the power station, we made time to explore the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and the conservatory, and we were so glad we did. Inside the conservatory, we found towering tropical plants, cascading vines, vibrant blooms, and some truly stunning species we’d never seen before — all thriving in the warm, glass-encased oasis.

Outside, the floral displays were spectacular. Bright, perfectly maintained gardens buzzing with bees, sculpted flower beds, and — our favourite — a huge floral dragon made entirely from plants and blossoms. It’s playful, artistic, and absolutely wonderful to see in person.

Walking through the upper town in the evenings, we wandered past bars, restaurants, casinos, and all the neon-lit fun of Clifton Hill. Among the highlights was Margaritaville, a fun, tropical-themed bar where the cocktails flow, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the décor puts you instantly in holiday mode. After days full of walking, it was the perfect place to unwind.

Everywhere you go in Niagara, there’s a fine mist lingering in the air — especially near the falls. It’s refreshing, it’s atmospheric, and it reminds you just how close you are to something unimaginably powerful.

We stayed in a room overlooking both Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls, and the view was extraordinary. Even in the quiet moments — early morning coffee, late evening unwinding — the mist drifted across the skyline like a soft veil.

At night, the falls are lit in vibrant colours, and from up there, the view down to Rainbow Bridge and the fireworks bursting above the gorge felt like a scene straight out of a postcard.

Before heading home, we spent a day in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect ending. Tree-lined streets, boutique shops, friendly cafés, historic buildings, and a wonderfully gentle pace after the adrenaline and excitement of the falls. It’s a place that makes you want to slow down, breathe in the roses, and just stay a little longer. In just a few days, we packed in so much — and yet Niagara still feels like a place you could return to again and again and always discover something new. The raw power of the falls, the engineering marvels, the peaceful gardens, the thrill of the rapids, the charm of the surrounding towns… it’s a destination that truly has it all.

We left speechless — and already planning our return.
