Cairns, Australia

Cairns has always held a special kind of magic for us — that tropical blend of reef, rainforest, and relaxed Queensland charm that makes you instantly slow down and soak it all in. Our short stay here was packed with unforgettable experiences and a few “pinch me” moments that make you fall in love with North Queensland all over again.

We based ourselves right in Cairns, which made it easy to explore both the Great Barrier Reef and the lush Daintree Rainforest — two UNESCO World Heritage wonders sitting side by side. A full-day reef trip was an absolute highlight: crystal-clear turquoise water, colourful coral gardens, and the thrill of snorkelling alongside vibrant marine life. It’s one of those experiences that truly lives up to the hype!

Back on land, we loved wandering the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, a perfect spot to cool off and watch the world go by. The night markets were a fun evening stop for souvenirs and local bites, while nearby Palm Cove offered a more laid-back coastal vibe with palm-fringed beaches and oceanfront cafés.

For adventure lovers, there’s no shortage of things to do — from Skyrail Rainforest Cableway over the canopy to Kuranda Village with its artsy shops and scenic railway. And of course, a visit to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef, is an easy day trip that feels like stepping into another world.

Our time in Cairns was short, but it reminded us why this tropical corner of Australia is so special — whether you’re here for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, Cairns delivers it all in the most stunning natural setting imaginable.
