Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Our stay on Waiheke Island was the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and indulgence — a true slice of paradise just a short ferry ride from Auckland. Known for its stunning beaches, award-winning vineyards, and laid-back island charm, there was something special to enjoy at every turn.
We explored the island’s world-class wineries, from long, lazy lunches overlooking the vines at Mudbrick and Cable Bay to boutique tastings at Tantalus and Batch Winery, each offering incredible food and panoramic views. The vineyard tours and wine tastings were definitely highlights, pairing delicious local wines with breathtaking scenery.
For some outdoor adventure, we discovered Oneroa Beach and Palm Beach, perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply soaking up the sun. We also took in the island’s natural beauty on one of the coastal walking trails, like the Church Bay Circuit and Te Ara Hura track, which offered sweeping views across the Hauraki Gulf.
The island’s art scene added a creative twist to our visit, with local galleries, sculptures, and artisan studios dotted around — especially in and around Oneroa Village, where we also browsed boutique shops and enjoyed the local cafés.
In the evenings, we enjoyed sunset dinners with ocean views, and the relaxed island vibe made it easy to unwind. For those looking for a bit of thrill, ziplining through native forest or kayaking around the coastline offered unforgettable experiences.
From fine wine and fresh seafood to golden beaches and scenic walks, Waiheke Island truly captured the essence of laid-back New Zealand luxury — the perfect island escape that felt a world away yet so close to the city.
